In order to promote innovative e-governance initiatives, the Digital India Awards have been instituted under the ambit of the National Portal of India. The event was held on 19th December, 2016 where twenty eight awards were given under eight categories. To give boost to the Open Government Data Initiative, departments which have been at the forefront in contributing data to OGD platform have been recognized and honoured under ‘Open Data Champions’ category.
